BUILD POOL SERVICE & WOOD DECK

  • Many believe that building a pool is difficult, but if you are a bit handy, you can manage it and save up to 50%. Even though you don't need building permits or land permits for pool construction, a certain amount of common sense is still required when building a pool.

    • The first step can be to consider the pool's location and size
    • Check for any cables and pipe installations on the website ledningskollen.se
    • Talk to neighbors in the area who have built pools about the ground conditions / groundwater level
    • Consider whether you have the time to build the pool yourself or if you will hire partial or full contracting
    • Read about different pool constructions, their pros and cons
    • Request a quote and talk to a pool expert
    • Book a home visit

Who is responsible for a pool construction?

  • When building a pool, the customer always has the ultimate responsibility regarding the pool's placement and to check that no pipes (water, electricity, gas, fiber, etc.) are on the property where the pool is to be placed. It is also the customer's responsibility to protect the pool with a fence or to purchase approved pool protection once the pool construction is completed.
During the construction period, the person building the pool is always responsible for restricting the pool area from unauthorized access so that children, animals, or other people are not injured by falling into the pit.

Placement of the pool

  • The placement of the pool is always a topic of discussion where the homeowner knows the area best and usually already has suggestions for the location. The pool is a feature that should not be hidden. Things to consider when placing it:

    • Where does the sun rise and set? You want to be able to see the sunset from your pool while sitting on the steps or the bench
    • The pool is beautiful to look at even in the evening when the lights are on, so it’s good if the pool is visible from the living room as well
    • The most natural placement is if the pool’s location follows the positioning of the house structure.
    • The pool lights are always placed on the same side as the house so that the lights shine away from the house
    • Always have at least 2.20m clearance around the pool to be able to slide the pool cover away (the recommendation is 3m)
    • Consider where the filtration system should be placed (up to 10 m from the pool). A garden shed, storage room, or other buildings are good places to put the pool’s filtration system.

To help you see how the garden looks, Pooltime offers 3D visualization.

Choose the right pool

There are many different pool constructions on the market:

  • Wooden frame with liner fabric (kit)

  • Sheet metal frame with liner fabric (kit)

  • Thermopool with liner (kit)

  • Fiberglass Pools (one-piece shell)

  • PP Poolers (whole tub)

Many pool constructions are outdated, so at Pooltime we focus only on two pool constructions: PP Pool (one-piece shell) and Thermopools (kit).

PP Pool is delivered as a complete shell where you get premium materials and the absolute latest technology in pool constructions. Thermopool is delivered as a kit where you assemble the pool and line the inside with a liner fabric.

How long does it take to build a pool?

When building a pool, time is an important factor as there is often a deadline to meet and you want to be able to swim as soon as possible. If you build a pool in the spring, Midsummer is usually the critical date by which everything should be completed.
How long does it take to build a pool?

  • PP Pool – construction time 1-3 weeks

The PP Pool is delivered as a complete tub, so the actual construction time takes 2-3 weeks from when you start digging the hole until you can swim in the pool. The excavator usually begins preparing the ground 2-10 days before the pool is delivered. In cases of high groundwater or unstable soil (such as sand), a concrete base slab must be poured. The reason is that groundwater can carry material from beneath the pool, which can cause settling if there is no concrete slab. When a base slab is poured, digging starts about a week before the pool delivery, the ground and drainage are prepared, the slab is formed and reinforced in preparation for the concrete truck's arrival. The base slab then needs to cure for about a week.
If the ground is hard clay without groundwater, a base layer and crushed stone as a foundation along with drainage are usually sufficient. In this case, digging starts about 2-3 days before the pool delivery.

When the pool is lifted into the hole, the lights, skimmer, and inlets are connected. After that, you can immediately start filling with water while backfilling the sides with dry mortar. The dry mortar is watered and becomes concrete once it has cured. If you have access to two hoses, the backfilling of the pool can be completed in 1-2 days.

  • Thermopool – construction time 8-12 weeks

At Thermopool, the process begins with preparing the base, drainage, forming the slab, and reinforcing it before the concrete truck arrives. The base slab should then be allowed to cure for about a week. After that, the walls are built up and reinforced. Openings are cut out for the skimmer, lights, and inlets, and the walls are supported to prepare them for casting. Once the concrete truck has filled the walls with concrete, the walls must be allowed to cure for 4-6 weeks before starting to install the liner and begin filling with water.

When is the best time of year to build a pool?

  • Att bygga pool under hösten

Autumn is a very popular time to build a pool. The reason many choose to build a pool in the autumn is that everything else gets finished during the autumn, and when spring comes, you can enjoy the pool for an entire season. Builders are often more available in the autumn, and many pool companies offer special discounts.

  • Att bygga pool under våren

Spring is usually a hectic period for the pool industry. Many start thinking about pools when the sun comes out, and by then it is often too late to expect the pool to be ready by summer. Those who build pools in the spring might possibly finish the pool construction by summer, but many surrounding tasks remain. The lawn, which has been damaged by machinery, needs to start growing, the deck or paving stones need to be laid, and so on. Most people who build pools in the spring can only use the pool for half a season that same year.

Which pool size is the most popular?

  • The standard depth for pools is 1.5m. This allows you to swim in the pool while also being able to play in the pool with children.

The absolutely most popular pool size is 4 x 8 m for larger plots and 3 x 6 m for smaller plots. There is also a size in between, which is 3.5 x 7 m, but usually this pool size is closer in cost to 4 x 8 m than to 3 x 6 m, so many then just choose 4 x 8 m.

You should be careful about how the pool size is measured. For PP Pool and Thermopools, the pool size is measured on the INSIDE of the pool, while many fiberglass pool manufacturers specify the measurement on the outside of the pool. Fiberglass pools also have an edge of about 10 cm and the walls slope inward, so a pool measuring 3.5 x 7 m can have a swimming area of about 3 x 6 m.

Vad kostar det att bygga en pool?

PP Pool is a premium material that is also approved for food containers, making the material much more expensive than for Thermopools. The tub itself for a PP Pool costs about 130,000 SEK for a 4 x 8 pool compared to the Thermopool where the walls cost only about 30,000 SEK. Additional costs then include the purification system, stairs, heat pump, and pool cover.
